All Temple Donations & Rental Income from Temple-Owned Lands Is Controlled By State Govts. This includes Jain Temples. The government however does not interfere with running of or funds of Churches, Mosques, Gurudwaras and Baudha Viharas
Ironically, India is the only country where the majority religious community is being discriminated against.
Various state governments through their respective Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) Acts have assumed financial and management control of thousands of Hindu temples across India. They did this under alleged accusations of mismanagement of funds, other than carrying forward the legacy of the British Raj when such acts to control funds of Hindu institutions were enacted.
It is worthy of noting here that no other religious institution (barring Jain institution, as by legal definition Jains are Hindus) — Churches, Mosques, Gurudwaras belonging to Christian, Muslim and Sikh practitioners respectively, despite their scale or similar accusations of mismanagement of funds, have been brought under acts similar to the HR&CE Acts issued by various states all over India.
About TR Ramesh
One of the leaders of the this movement is Sh. TR Ramesh. He represents the “Swami Dayananda Saraswati Case” in the Supreme Court of India, which is fighting for release of temples in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Puducherry.
Ramesh ji was part of Dr. Subramanyam Swamy’s team from 2009 to 2014 which helped free “Chidambaram Temple” in Tamil Nadu from the government. He was working with Citibank but in 2011 decided to quit his job to dedicate his time to fighting battles against the HR&CE Department of Tamil Nadu — these battles are usually fought in the Madras High Court.
In 2016 Ramesh ji sent a note to J Sai Deepak seeking financial assistance as he had quit his job and dedicated his life to freeing temples. Srijan Foundation Trust came forward and agreed to cover all this running expenses.
Srijan Foundation is now seeking support from individual donors who will contribute directly to TR Ramesh ji’s charitable trust based in Chennai.
